DIY bags, tie necklaces and a cake

Dear all, Ana is back. :)
And in order to make her something for the welcome gift I took a trip to Svet metraže
(where I might even start working if all goes well and there won't be enough people who are actually studying something fabric-connected).

But if we go back to our main story I went there and spent another hour and a half picking out the right fabric to make my friend a bag and an additional fabric for the flower... because it seemed right.
When I stepped in the store I realised I might find a fabric that would have something German on and it did take quite some time because the lady there didn't really think they have anything so I just kept looking. And while doing that I got a fabric with polka dots on the table, another one with flowers, found the third one in another corner that is sort of 18th century like with these little engravings on. Plus another fabric with books that I just have to have and am still thinking what I could make out of it that wouldn't be a bag.

After finding the fabric with Branderburg gate on it I still had to talk to a few consultants of mine, just to be sure this will be the right choice.

With a green flower on to match the beetle and to put more colour to it.
And I guess it was. It really worked out well.
Then of course I had to make a cake, every celebration has to have one. So I went and bought pineapple pieces, blueberries, raspberries and some cream. And at home it all transformed into a heart-shaped cake with a German flag on it (blueberries tend to look black so it worked).

And just because I love Ana and I like these tie necklaces I made that for her as well and on it put another tiny flower to match the bag.

Requiem by Penderecki

Yesterday, 13th March 2013, was one of the best days ever. With two of my friends from Academy we went to Udine, Italy, to a one of the most amazing concerts ever. Mr. Krzysztof Penderecki, a 79-year-old composer and conductor, gave an unforgettable performance with a Polish choir and a big symphonic orchestra. Mr. Penderecki conducted his own work, Polish Requiem, written 30 years ago, with two additions, one in 1993 and another one, Chaconne, in 2005, in honour of Pope John Paul II.

For me it was certainly one of the things I will never forget. For I heard his music in The Shining quite some years ago I really liked it. I didn't know who wrote it back then and I wasn't using the computer much so I didn't find out. Then we had a lesson on his Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima on Academy and I knew that was the song I was listening to in The Shining.
So it hasn't been long but I listened to a lot of his music ever since and it is really exceptional.
So the oportunity to listen to his work, conducted by himself was something I couldn't miss and was worth every cent and every minute to get to Udine and back.

New DIY tie necklace

Hello.

Today I was in a really good mood, got quite a few things done (no viola though, not good) and made this lovely necklace from an unused tie I was given yesterday evening. So of course I had to try something out. I've seen this with a tutorial on a couple of sites and it seemed like an easy idea. And it is. And it would be even easier if this tie would be all green. Of course I picked the one that has a deer embroidery and I had to hide it in the fold so it took a few minutes more.
On most pictures  on the internet it comes with a button instead of a flower on the end but as I just made this one yesterday I used it to get the ends together because I was already running out of time I had.

So here it is, a brand new necklace from a man's tie. Hope you like it. :)

New DIY bags

So this week me and my friends were celebrating two birthdays and since I always think the best gift is something you make by yourself and you put yourself into it, put some work into, is the best. At least I know I always feel like that about the gifts I get. :)

And then you can assume what happened. I went to 'Svet metraže' again, bought the fabric, found a great tutorial for bags online, did a couple of alterations and here they are.

And you just need two amazing fabrics, dark lining for the inside inside, an added inner pocket and a longer strap than shown on tutorial because it really just is more usefull.

Hope you like them and I sure will soon be making some more. :)

Tough week

So this week has been quite tough, started exactly a week ago, on Thursday, 14th February, also known as Valentine's day. For me it wasn't really romantic and yet still meaningful for my life, well at least for now it seems so. And if you're close enough with me you probably already know what I'm talking about.

But I'm feeling great now. Caught up with a few of my other friends already and with all this situation going on I feel really lucky I have them all and can still count on them, even though I haven't really made much time for them before last week.

All this still feels kinda weird, because it's not the same it used to be, my life and my communication themes especially, those back then were really something. ;)

It also seems really hard but I thank God for this, he knows what must be and it's all for the best, I'm sure of it.

Now I can only hope that I can put this behind and share kindness freely and spontaneously like these people in the video below do. Hope you like it. :) It's really worth something.

Carnival mask

This year our scouts' winter weekend fell on the weekend during the 'Mardi Gras season' and therefore we decided to set everything in the 18th century, including clothes. We made some with kids a week before but then I decided to make a better one for Maja and me, so at least the leaders would be dressed properly. ;)
So I just got to it. First I made both dresses and then a coat for Maja and the night before we started with our weekend I finished mine as well, only one hour before departure.

I was trying to go for 18th century, semi-big dresses, big behinds, fluffy sleeves, tight waist..

I tried my best and I did waste quite some time sewing and I hope you like the way it came out.

For hair I found this amazing 18th century hair tutorial that doesn't include any weird things you wouldn't have at home. The only problem is my hair is way longer and heavier so it is not really the same. Well I tried. :)
